Kōbe Kitano Tenman Shrine is dedicated to Tenjin, the patron of learning and study. It is located in the hills of Kōbe city, near the mountainside, in an area that was originally populated by many foreigners after the country we opened for international trade. As such, the shrine is a bit of an anachronism: classical Japanese architecture surrounded by Victorian mansions. Even today a number of these mansions, known as ijinkan, still exist in the area. The shrine has a number of sakura trees on its grounds, making it particularly lovely to visit in the springtime.
